From Insight to Impact

At the recent launch of our new impact strategy, we reaffirmed our commitment to creating tangible, lasting change for all whānau. The strategy is built around four key pou: cultural connection, stronger whānau, safer communities and thriving tamariki.
These pillars reflect what matters most — not just what we do, but the change we help make possible. While the strategy guides our work with all whānau, the journey of tāne is a powerful example of deep transformation.
In our lead article on Te Kawa o te Marae, we saw how many tāne experience a turning point when they start to understand their whare as a sacred space — one that’s meant to be safe, peaceful and filled with mana. That shift, grounded in tikanga and whakapapa, often starts the process of healing.
“These pillars enable Te Whare to more effectively deliver on Te Aorerekura and play our part in eliminating family and sexual violence in Aotearoa,” says CEO Elizabeth Walker. “When tāne reconnect with who they are and why they matter, the impact ripples out. Wāhine feel safer and supported, whānau become stronger, and tamariki get to grow up in homes filled with aroha and calm.”
Through this strategy, we’re not just measuring activity — we’re measuring transformation. We’re focused on what truly counts: whānau healing, restored relationships and brighter futures that positively impact generations.
“All my kids like the change. They like coming home now. My wife and I have given up drinking. And our house is… I wouldn’t say it’s like a temple, but it’s nice and peaceful. It’s lovely.” – Tāne
