Knowing Te Whare can continue to support me through Pou Hono gives me confidence
Garrie has benefited not only from the Te Whare Non Violence Adult Safety Programme, but also from the wider support available through Te Whare services, which provide ongoing guidance, cultural support, and practical assistance.
This wraparound approach has helped ensure him feel supported beyond the programme itself, with continued access to trusted relationships and services that align with his needs as he works through personal, legal, and housing matters.
“I felt this programme was appropriate for my situation, particularly in helping me manage disputes and conflict with my sister regarding our whenua in Tautoro. Through participation in the programme, I gained valuable insight into the support I need, developed a stronger understanding of risk factors, and learned practical ways to minimise those risks in order to keep myself safe. I also built practical skills to manage conflict and created an effective Safety Plan, which helps me avoid situations that may lead to harm or escalation.
The Te Whare Non Violence Adult Safety Programme helped me understand my risks, put the right supports in place, and create a Safety Plan to avoid conflict. Knowing Te Whare can continue to support me through Pou Hono gives me confidence as I work through legal and housing matters relating to my whenua. I was also pleased to learn that Te Whare can provide ongoing support through Pou Hono (Kaumātua and Kuia services), which will be important for my future accommodation needs and as I continue to navigate legal matters relating to a current protection order and my whenua, both of which are identified in my Safety Plan.”
