Ministerial visit provides opportunity for Te Whare to showcase impact of services

Te Whare Ruruhau o Meri Trust (Te Whare) has welcomed Hon. Minister Karen Chhour back to Te Whare just over a year after hosting the launch of its Impact Strategy.

Hosted by the Board Chair, Chief Executive and Anglican Diocese representatives, the Whangārei visit highlighted the organisation’s growing impact across Te Tai Tokerau and Tāmaki Makaurau, and its contribution to Te Aorerekura, the national strategy to eliminate family and sexual violence.

The visit comes as Te Whare strengthens its presence in Whangārei, recently expanding its kaupapa Māori sexual violence services with the addition of two new Kaiārahi Whānau roles.
During the visit, Te Whare shared evidence of positive outcomes from its Impact Strategy and demonstrated how its tikanga Māori framework, Te Kawa o te Marae, could inform government policy and programme design.

The organisation also highlighted its growing partnership with the Anglican Diocese and collaborative plans to better connect whānau with support. Te Whare reaffirmed its role as a trusted advocate for whānau and its commitment to working alongside Government to ensure kaupapa Māori approaches and lived experience shape future decision-making.

Te Whare provides a range of integrated services across the rohe, including kaupapa Māori social work, family harm and sexual violence support, safety and non-violence programmes, tamariki wellbeing initiatives, and advocacy services.
